Addressing issues for international users don’t necessarily mean language-specifics. It is the approach to different cultures, and having the ability to apply solid technical skills for solving these problems.

Describe the current team this person will join, including the reporting structure.
We are the International Engineering Team, and we are expanding the scope of the team. We are part of Product Engineering at Twitter, focused on end-user product feature development.
Currently, we have a mix of specialized engineers: half of the team is on internationalization infrastructure, and the other half of the team is working on front-end including web and mobile.
We’ve got approximately 10 engineers total on the team. We have engineers from various cultural background such as European/Japanese/South Asian. We have people on the team from Google, PayPal, and social gaming companies.

What percentage of the candidate's time will be spent on existing products/business, versus items that are new?
As we are expanding the team’s scope, large chunk of the work is new. Some of the work could be completely brand-new such as working on products for other countries that do not exist in the U.S. You'll have a hand in how we build and deliver products in new international markets.
What challenges will this person face on a daily basis?
The pace is so fast that you feel like you have been here over a year except you have only been here for three months.
Each project we are working on with the international team is different from the last. Thus, you must absorb new technology quickly.
You certainly are not going to get bored here. We’re still defining the way we work truly internationally.

Anonymous UserYou mention that the Twitter International Engineering Team is called "i18n" -- what does that stand for?2011-11-10 10:00:54- TwitterThanks for your question. Here is general information on the meaning.
Also here is a link to the Wikipedia page on this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internationalization_and_localization
The term is an abbreviated meaning of 'internationalization and localization' to the numeronyms i18n (where 18 stands for the number of letters between the first i and last n in internationalization, a usage coined at DEC in the 1970s or 80s)[1] and L10n respectively, due to the length of the words. The capital L in L10n helps to distinguish it from the lowercase i in i18n.2011-11-10 10:31:41
